I was looking through more old photos yesterday. Here’s another cracking new picture for you….. a little piece of Blantyre history in time! From 1999, the former David Livingstone Memorial Bridge, pulled down and looking demolished in a sorry state, lying in the River Clyde!! The bridge didn’t come down properly and excavators had to […]

1978 Last Objectors withdraw
On Monday 5th June 1978, just a day before the Public Inquiry into the redevelopment of Glasgow Road, the three remaining objectors withdrew their objections, meaning for the first time , the scheme was completely unblocked. The dramatic u turn came about just one day before proceedings had been due to start, which would […]
Woodburn House Demolished
I was reliably informed today that Woodburn House, a prominent old house at Woodburn Avenue near the station has been demolished this week. Seeing this for myself after work, the cleared site is currently fenced off with security. The house was gutted by fire in 2016 after lying empty for some time. It is unknown […]
1903 Abandoned Blantyre Mills

St Joseph’s Demolition
Some further photos received in recent weeks from Geoff Sowerby and Marion Coulter Smith showing the final stages of St Joseph’s Primary Schoo, Glasgow Roadl being demolition back in January 2016. The demolition commenced on 7th January and took until the 29th January to clear the whole building to ground level.
Matt Boyles House – demolition 2008
High Blantyre Publican Matt Boyle lived at 306 Main Street, a neighbouring property to my own. His home was demolished during the last week in May 2008, to make way for the building of 12 new flats (Lomond View). Jim Brown captured the moment on camera, when excavators ripped the house down. Such a prominent […]
