Andrea and her nephew Luke discovered a vintage bottle stopper and a ginger beer bottle fragment at Portobello Beach, Edinburgh. The stopper, marked “ROBERTSON BLANTYRE,” highlights the historical significance of A. Robertson & Co. Founded in the 1870s, the company was a prominent local producer of soft drinks in Blantyre.
Euan Matthews from the Blantyre Project reached out after finding a bottle from Robertsons factory while clearing his father’s flat. He questioned whether the “26” on the bottle indicated a 1926 origin, suspecting it might instead signify a batch, product, or volume due to its modern appearance.
