Burleigh Church Opening: A Historic Celebration in 1892
The Burleigh Church, now Blantyre United East Free Church, opened on December 3, 1892, followed by a well-attended first service. Notably, Rev. Mr. Burleigh, Rev. Dr. Wallace, and Rev. T. M. B. Paterson led worship. The week featured nightly evangelistic services, with optimistic prospects for the congregation’s future.
Burleigh Church – East Free Opening
The Free Church of Blantyre East was opened on December 3, 1892, with a sermon by Rev. Dr. Bannerman. Despite bad weather, attendance was high. The church features a simple yet elegant design, seating 500, with exquisite stained glass and good acoustics. It cost £1620. A historical photo is available.
