1977 Wages Building

1970s Wages Office Blantyre Works

A lovely photo of the “Counting House” or also known as “The Wages Building”, at Blantyre Village Works, near the David Livingstone Centre. Likely taken in the 1970’s, this Summer scene looks idyllic with what is certainly a very distinctive and unique building for Blantyre.

Originally part of a longer building, this is the part which remains today. The vantage point is from the top of the steps leading up to the turnstiles at the Centre itself. In the background are the woods at Bothwell, the river being directly behind the building and the bridge, rebuilt in 1999 now located just out the picture to the right.
