This photo is from 1984. Pictured is Devlin Grove on Glasgow Road. The Council’s brand new sheltered home facility was built in this location to fill the large space that had been created from the tenement removal. It was much needed in Blantyre and designed to fit in with the modern, opposing new shopping centre. It opened a year earlier in 1983 and people took up accommodation quickly.
There’s not many photos around showing Devlin Grove just after completion, so this little post aims to correct that. Was this really 35 years ago?
The scene today has mature trees and planters.
My mother and father were one of the first couples to move into Devlin Grove and they loved it. With a great warden June Stone.
