In September 2015 whilst I was exploring the Blantyre Priory ruins with fellow Blantyre men Patrick McAleenan and Alex Rochead, we found what can only be described as “a more modern addition!”
We were stunned after trampling through very steep woodland, former colliery fields and playing fields, to see a relatively modern car wreck near the waters edge. This was in a place so inaccessible and with trees all around. How and when on EARTH it got there, I can only imagine.
Is it a mini?
On social media:
Priory Inn Black C pillar too thick for a mini
Alan McDonald Looks very 1980s. Maybe a Rover 800, Montego or one of those square Ford Granadas.
Stuart Charlton Maybe a Riley Elf or Wolsely Hornet… but don’t think so…
Steven Lightbody Mk3 Cortina?
Gord Fotheringham Its not mine
Stephen Allan Where exactly was this Paul as I live in Priory Bridge housing estate down at the very bottom and behind our house is woodland area with the Calder river. The only car I remember was from the late 90s when I was out playing with my mates and it was just off the track that leads to Calderglen nursing home before all the new houses were built at that area and it was near a cliff type area where the Calder river is over at the grass field to the side of the track that leads down to the nursing home. The car was just sitting there all rusty and burnt out.
The Blantyre Project Hi Stephen- this is some distance away, over at the Clyde, in fact the river is just out the picture to the left. Its down in the woods, not far from Blantyre Priory, just beyond the playing fields.
Jane Johnstone Hope it’s not connected to an accident or something sinister…
The Blantyre Project ohhhh, never even thought of that. Hope nobody was in it!!
The Blantyre Project I have been emailed this evening from Gerry who told me, “The car is actually a Ford Cortina Mk5 Ghia, I remember playing in it as child smile emoticon i’m pretty sure it was automatic too, as it had a T shaped stick.
Oh the memories……………………”
