John Davidson and Joan Keeling ask, “On 11 June 1944 , Corporal Robert McFall of the Royal Marines was killed in action in a battle in the village of Rots in Normandy .Cpl McFall was from Blantyre. I am trying to trace any of Cpl McFall’s family. If you can help in identifying any family members, I will be most grateful. I believe Cpl McFall’s name appears on a war memorial in Blantyre.”

Hello. Robert McFall was my mum’s uncle. My mum’s mother was Sadie McFall later Sadie Burns and was the sister of Catherine who moved Padiham in Lancashire. My mum still lives in the Cambusland area. Her older brother was named Robert by my grandmother Sadie in memory of her brother who died in WW2. He is buried in Bayeux Cemetery in Normandy. We’re very proud of his sacrifice. We know that a local women adopted his grave and looked after it for years, writing to my family. I hope this helps.
