1859 – These are my favourite maps of Blantyre, even more so than more modern ones. I like the care that has been taken and they highlight paths, roads and woodlands in very accurate details. I’ve come to rely on them for much of my research, and come to trust them. Buildings are in pink, making them stand out, water including rivers are in blue. The map squares I have are a mixture of Black and white and the better coloured one. Safe to say, without the 1859 maps, I’d not be able to write half of what I have. In some map squares, I have add further detail to put them into a more modern context.
