An advert by John McKelvey, Blantyre businessman in Summer 1892, told of his move to new premises. Long since forgotten about, this was a business operating in Blantyre 134 years ago!
John was a watch, clock and jewellery repairer and in July 1892, moved to McAlpine’s Buildings, on Glasgow Road, Stonefield, Blantyre.
An advert taken out in the Hamilton Herald said:
JOHN M‘KELVEY,

Begs to intimate to the inhabitants of Blantyre and surrounding districts that he has Removed his place of business to the above Address, and still hopes, by strict attention to Business and good Workmanship, combined with Moderate Prices, to merit a share of public patronage.
Any Orders entrusted to my care, the Public may rely on them being promptly and neatly executed.
Please Note the New Address— JOHN M‘KELVEY,
M‘ALPINE’S BUILDINGS, STONEFIELD, BLANTYRE.
