Historic Photo of Bob Forrest and Hector the Horse

George Park shared this excellent photo, saying, “This is a picture of my grand-dad Bob Forrest, and his horse Hector, at a watering point at Ferniegair, Hamilton.”

“Bob had to hold his shovel under the tap to catch the water in order that Hector could have a drink. This might be around the mid 1920’s. At that time, Bob lived with his family in the tenement in Broompark Road directly opposite the smiddy, and the ‘wee ferm’ where he was born. A passing photographer was so taken by the event, that he asked if he could take a picture, and that photograph became a postcard.”

” Bobs uncle Jock lived just round the corner, in the thatched ‘weavers cottage’ at the junction of Bardykes Road and Peth Brae.”

Isn’t this just a wonderful photo!
