A depiction of how Bothwell Castle may once have looked. Bothwell Castle, perched above the River Clyde is a striking medieval stronghold dating back to the late 13th century.
Built by the Murray family, it played a key role in Scotland’s Wars of Independence, switching hands between the Scots and English multiple times. Sitting directly opposite the Blantyre Priory, known for its massive circular donjon and red sandstone construction, the castle was later expanded by the Earls of Douglas.
Today, it stands as a majestic ruin, offering a glimpse into Scotland’s turbulent medieval history.
