Blantyre Bowling Club Season Opening Highlights

The green of Blantyre Bowling Club was opened for the 1893/1894 season on Friday 5th May.

That afternoon attendees saw splendid bowling weather, and a real glimpse of forthcoming summer weather. There was a large turnout of members and friends when Mr Joseph McNish, President of the Club conducted the opening ceremony.

The customary games between President and Vice President were held with the Vice President winning by 15 shots. Music was provided by Blantyre Brass Band, who set up adjacent to the green and provided an excellent repertoire.

In connection with the club, the very next day on Saturday 6th May, saw the annual opening of the adjacent Lawn Tennis Courts (now the Bowling Club carpark) where a mixed attendance of ladies and gentlemen were present. The weather was all that could be desired and everybody had a chance to take part in some games.
