Becoming Chief Inspector

Chief Constable Mr. David McNee had something to announce in January 1977. Miss Christine Crawford of Blantyre was to be promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector at Strathclyde Police.

This little story marks that notable promotion and Christine’s efforts.

Miss Crawford moved from the Force Information Office where her duties were to act as Press Liaison Officer to the Discipline Branch. A native of Glasgow, Chief Inspector Crawford in 1977 lived at Priory Bridge, Blantyre with her parents Mr and Mrs Henry Crawford.

Prior to regionalisation, she was a member of the City of Glasgow Police where she gained a wide experience of police training, uniform and C.I.D. work. Her position in the Force Information Office was taken by Inspector Irene Livingstone, who was member of Ayr Burgh Police before she transferred to the City of Glasgow Police. She has worked with the CiD, Flying squad, and the Uniform branch in many districts in Glasgow.

Amongst her new duties following this promotion was to liaise with members of press, radio and television on behalf of Strathclyde Police.
