WW1 Replica Tank Restoration

Now here’s something you don’t see every day! The Western Desert Recce Group have just acquired a replica full sized  WW1 wooden  tank. The SSCIO Charity based in High Blantyre  plans to refurbish and take it to various events.

Here’s a sneak peek to show you with these photos. These wooden tanks were built and taken around all the villages and towns during WW1 to raise money for the war effort and to help buy a tank, similar to the Spitfire appeal during WW2.

The Charity are looking for others who would like to help the existing team to refurbish the tank back to its former glory.

They are also looking for any donations of plywood or external chipboard or similar as well as paint to help complete the project and keep costs down. We’ll commit to providing £100 of plywood to help.

They meet every Thursday evening 6 till 9 and Saturdays 10 till 4 at their workshop, Unit 1 Block 3, Third Road, Blantyre Ind. Est. G72 0UP, just behind the Central Cafe and B&B Autocare.
