Merry Christmas, 1970

Some more photos from my family album. Taken 52 years ago, this is December 1970  as my 23 year old mother Janet Veverka (nee Duncan) is heavily pregnant with me.

This was at Stonefield Crescent in the family home as mum and dad celebrated their first year together as a married couple. The family pet cat, ‘Rags’ is in most of these pictures and mum even sent the cat a card, which we still have up the loft!

Mum wrote inside “To Rags Veverka, Hoping you’ll enjoy a “purr”-fectly wonderful Christmas 1970!“, which is just mum’s sense of humour. I remember the fashions and colours of carpets, sofas and curtains in the living room. And mum’s “good mahogany table” with her cards on!

The Christmas tree was modest and small, as were the decorations. Our Czech relatives sent over chocolates for the tree, something they did at great expense every year, right up until my elderly Aunts passed away in recent years. The cat looks mesmerised by the Christmas tree baubles. Rags, the cat is perhaps my earliest toddler memory but unfortunately Rags got run over in 73 or 74, a trigger for getting our first Samoyed dog.
