This celebration is the annual Blantyre Police Ball, which was held in the Co-operative Hall at Herberston Street in February 1929. The Committee and friends are pictured in front of the hired band.

Predominately older folk, I recognise Councillor John (Jock) Richardson sitting at the very front, though I’m unable to name anybody else. I had wondered if the local police officers and their partners were all invited to this ball too and suspect that was the case, the photographer simply taking time out here to photograph the committee.
