These photos previously not seen online took me somewhat by surprise as I thought the Blantyre Markets ended in 1982. When the market was forced to move away from the Hastie’s site, it moved temporarily to Glasgow Road, but development and the building of Devlin Grove forced, even that contingency to be squashed.
A new site was needed and there were no licenses in place. These photos are from 15th November 1983, unauthorised Blantyre markets from traders refusing to believe or let their market end.
