In mid August 1980, an important group of Africans arrived in Blantyre to get a different view of their homeland.
In this photo, Livingstone Centre warden Bill Cunningham (second right) conducts the Mayor and Mayoress of Lilongwe, the Capital of Malawi on a tour which highlighted their visit to Scotland.
Also attending were officials from Lilongwe with Baile Philip O Rourke from Glasgow City Council. The Mayor, Alex Malinki had visited Blantyre before and thoroughly enjoyed his return visit. The visitors of course were particularly interested to hear of Livingstone’s humble beginnings and knew exactly just how far he had travelled to map out their country.
