In June 1968, Miss Marie Docherty was crowned Blantyre Gala Queen!
Marie, of 2B Jackson Street was crowned as part of the YMCA Summer Fete at Stonefield Public Park with her predecessor, Marion Campbell doing the honours. The attendants (I think) are Ann Beggs and Kate Wilson.
The fete was opened by Dr John McArthur, who shortly after left Blantyre for India, as a Missionary of the Church of Scotland.
