Knees up time, 1979

The first week in July 1979 was remembered as one when Blantyre folk took over Butlins in Ayr! Well at least Blantyre folks had won three of the top contests that summer.

Michael Ferns of Poplar Place won the ‘knobbly knees” competition, cheered on by his wife Esther and their 7 year old daughter, Karen.

Anne McCall , an 11 year old Schoolgirl of Millands Avenue was on the stardom trail, with her winning impressions of Margaret Thatcher and a host of other celebs!

Bill McCreadie’s knowledge of Sport gave him an advantage and pushed him on to victory in Butlin’s Scotsport competition, beating FIVE challengers to win the title. The 37 year old machine setter from Morven Avenue won several prizes including, wait for it….a  travelling alarm clock!
