Top Apprentice Steven Fletcher is pictured here in June 1979. He’s being presented with the City of Guilds London Institute medal by Bothwell MP, James Hamilton.
Steven was just 21 in this photo. The Blantyre lad lived at John Street, not far from his place of employment. It was quite an accolade too, as he came first from over 600 entries in structural and thickplate studies. Looking on are William Waggott, Chairman and Managing Director of Blantyre Engineering Company and proud parents, Steven’s mother Mary Fletcher and his father Edward.
