In Summer 1979, Blantyre was shocked at the death of Mr. David Buchanan Murray, who for many years had been associated with the Blantyre Victoria Football Club.
Mr Murray who was only 47 years old had been a Bar Steward at the Vics Social club since 1976. He served on their committee from 1962 until 1976 and during the season 1964/65 was match secretary.
Born in Forrest Street in 1931 only 50 yards from Castle Park, he was one of a family of 6. His wife Margaret, three sons and two daughters survived him. Representatives of 11 junior teams, officials and many personalities from the sporting world paid their respects with messages and fond memories.
Pictured in 1969/1970 is the Vics Committee, with several Murray surnames on the Committee. Did you know David? Do you have a photo of him?
