I don’t have any pictures of this, but the Jubilee of the Scouts in 1979 will likely be remembered by many people. Pictured slightly earlier in 1978 are Third Blantyre Scouts.

In July 1979, to mark their Jubilee, the 3rd Blantyre Scout Group held a weekend camp at Bardykes Farm, on the banks of the River Calder. More than 40 scouts from A and B troops and a dozen cubs took part in the camp over a long weekend.

One of the main logistics was catering for so many people. On the Saturday evening, the lads held a BBQ and invited parents to come along with chops, steaks, sausages, rolls and chicken! Over the weekend, over 300 meals were provided.

During the day, the lads took part in a number of activities, including chariot races and five a side football against parents. One of the highlights was a “Superscout” and “Supercub” contest with trophies for the winners presented by Scottish Internationalist, Ian Munro. Other activities included running, dribbling, target football, darts and netball.

The Jubilee was such a success that a special badge was created to commemorate it.
