1979 saw a holiday ‘boom’ in holidays to Miami and Florida. Trans Atlantic flights became more competitive and the introduction of package type holidays to Florida was a welcome and different destination from more traditional holidays.
Local business, Glen Travel embraced the opportunity and making sure their staff were fully educated, first sent 4 of their staff to America to experience the holidays for themselves, purely for educational purposes of course!
The trips, taking in Boston, Minneapolis, Orlando and Disneyworld were organised by North West Orient Airlines and Robert Buntin, their Scottish Sales Representative was at Glen Travel’s Glasgow Road office in November 1979 to hand over the tickets.
Lucky staff members were Tom Blair, senior head clerk, Miss Margaret Donnelly, a director of the firm, Ronnie Hughes manageress of the Bellshill office and Jim McLelland manager of the Blantyre office.
