Village, Gardens & The Clyde

Here’s the full photo from 1900 or just before showing the expansive Blantyre Works Mills, the sweeping Clyde at the bend. If you look closely you’ll see the gardens on the left hand side, the whitewashed double storey homes of Waterloo Row and the old suspension bridge.

On the opposite bank, on the horizon is the square steeple of Bothwell Parish Church. How wonderful it would be, from a curiosity perspective to be transported back there for a day to walk around this scene.

Archie Peat I,ll say it again , its amazing that within 50 years most of this was gone and the green area of ” The Braes ” predominated and prefab housing was built.

My late mom Helen Dolan lived at 2 Waterloo Row from her birth in 1914 till the entire row of houses burned down in 1928. Would # 2 be the first house on the left or the right? Thank you.
