High Blantyre Station

1950s late HB STation1 wmThis photo was taken from the Craigmuir Road Bridge over the former Railway line at High Blantyre. In the distance is High Blantyre Station, looking south, the bridge over the track still visible. The date is the late 1950s and the railway was a mineral line only at that time.

The former signal box at Sydes Brae no longer there, now where the expressway is. On the far right, you can see Blantyre Old Parish Church Steeple. Nothing remains of the old railway now, the scene replaced by a housing estate and East Kilbride Expressway.

Perhaps you remember when the station was there?

Henry Hambley Wonderful picture of High Blantyre station albeit when it was only used as access to Dixon’s pit. Great memories for me.

Thomas Barrett I remember Mr McKay took the class up there one day for a walk. Never knew the significant then.

Bill Graham My grandfather was a boy porter at the station.

Blantyre Project what was his name Bill? I like to record little snippets like that in to the Encyclopaedia.

Bill Graham Hugh Graham.
