Priory Bridge Ironwork

These 2 photos were taken in 2014 and show the ironwork on the Priory Bridge, just off Glasgow Road. The redundant bridge over the River Calder isn’t in the best condition and these iron stanchions supporting the upper extended deck and parapets look to be fairly rusty.

The ironwork was placed when the bridge was extended to allow trams to pass each other above, well over a hundred years ago.

Alex Orr I remember climbing up and down these when I was a young boy. Don’t think I could do it now.

  1. Oh what a shame, we used to walk down here when i was a child, my dad would camp out near here when he was a boy, such a lovely old memory. I know I have romanticized my childhood here in Blantyre, but don’t those greens and trees add mystery! thanks for all your postings Paul
