A fantastic photo of Main Street, High Blantyre, taken around the first decade of the 1900’s. In the foreground, the tenement that still stands was JB Struthers Inn and the Masonic Lodge (long before the roughcast covered the stone).
The Priestfield tree is MOST prominent in this photo, even in 1900, estimated as being around 70 or 80 years old. Below it, the buildings of Priestfield farm and beyond them the Co Buildings.
This Edwardian scene hasn’t really changed too much, but I suspect its the tree itself that makes things so familiar even nearly 120 years later!
