What an amazing photo this is! During WW1, Caldergrove House was turned into a hospital for recovering, wounded soldiers.
Sitting near the front door, not too far from Priory Bridge, the medical staff pose for a photo alongside the soldiers, all smartly dressed. There is almost one nurse or doctor for each of the patients, perhaps indicating the high standard of care that was given.
This is another of Blantyre’s grand old houses , now no longer here.
