Not even a month on from the terrible fire of 13th November at Calder Street, the Miner’s Welfare moved quickly to progress their plans for rebuilding, by commencing the demolition of the fire damaged part on the morning of Monday 11th December 2017.
It was a cold one too at minus 7 degrees!
Central Demolition were engaged to demolish the building which has been fenced off for safety. The Constance care building is being pulled down today as the machine moves eastwards to demolish the resource centre too.
A sad day, but we’re uplifted in knowing it’s a step towards a new building. Contractors were still demolishing the building, recommencing again on Thursday 21st December 2017, leaving the front facade.
