On Friday 22nd September 2017, a recognisable feature at Kirkton Cross disappeared for good! The council removed the redundant phone box which had not been used for some time.
This saw the start of several redundant phone boxed being removed throughout Blantyre. The beginning of the end of these boxes, not fitting or required in these technologically advanced times. However, a couple still remain.
Its been sometime since i used a phone box, perhaps not even since the 1990’s. What about you?

Alex Rochead I can’t remember when I last used a phone box. Not in this century. I hadn’t even noticed they were gone!! Sign of the times.
Jason Henderson I do remember in the 90s if someone found the odd bit of change on the pavement & the ice cream van had already been, it was off to this phone box to dish out a prank call…
Elizabeth Grieve There used to be one across from my parents house in Waverley Terrace at the junction with loanfoot road. Think I was at school when they took that away
Arleen Perrie I never even noticed it was gone
😂

Blantyre Project the one still near Ladbrokes in HIgh Blantyre looks like its on a “shaky wicket”.
