A trip to an exotic island, a chance to be an International model, a chance to leave sunny Blantyre for foreign shores, thats exactly what happened for a Blantyre resident in 1978.
It sounds like every teenage girl’s dream, but it came true for Blantyre’s Elizabeth Taylor, whom in 1978, was 17 years old. Elizabeth of 9 Small Crescent had been offered a modelling job in the Indian Ocean island of the Seychelles, the playground of the rich and famous.
She told press, “I have a friend on the island who came over here to run a modelling agency business. She is now planning on starting her own model agency on the island and wants me to come over for some photographs.”
Elizabeth is a former pupil of Elmwood School in Bothwell and hoped to fly out to the Seychelles that summer with her fiancé. Her main ambition was to run a model agency too, but was quite happy in being a model for that time being.
Do you know Elizabeth? Did she stay on in Blantyre or go out further into the big world?
