1978 Poster Winner, Stewart Roy

1978 Stuart Roy competition winnerIn February 1978, Blantyre Community Council ran a Blantyre wide campaign to design a poster during their Anti Vandal Campaign.

Plagued by acts of vandalism, the Council took the competition to Blantyre High, which produced a winner, as pictured by pupil, Stewart Roy, then aged 14 years.

Stewarts poster was to be copied 150 times and put up in local pubs and clubs, Stewart believing that parents should take responsibility for their children’s actions. This was only the first part of the Councils campaign. Later John Ogilvie pupils were similarly invited to design a poster for what could potentially happen to vandals, whilst they were destroying something.

The council also asked for more police to patrol Blantyre that year.
