Macleay, Mr. Donald – Born in Gareloch, Ross-shire in 1849, Donald appears to have moved to Blantyre around 1890 after marrying his wife Elizabeth.
They initially lived at Forrest Street, but around 1900, the family moved to the much more impressive “Airdville” a large house at 25 Woodburn Avenue.
Donald was a mineral weigher and by 1901 had a family of 4 children, the eldest of whom was 9 years old at that time. He lived at Airdville for much of his life. He died in Blantyre in 1923, aged 74.
However, the family continued to live at Airdville and were still there in 1930. Donald junior, his son died in Blantyre in 1981, aged 90.
