1985 Village Tenants’ Fete

Taking you back now to Saturday 10th August 1985. Just 4 weeks after Live Aid was screened all over the world, and at a time when Madonna’s “Into the Groove” was number 1 in the UK charts, Blantyre was hosting a fete.

For once, the sun actually shone as crowds descended upon David Livingstone Centre grounds for the annual Village Tenant’s Association fete. More than 70 children joined in the fun at the small gala, accompanied by parents and grandparents.

Five a side football and a giant picnic was arranged for the children, but the highlight by far was a fancy dress parade, where the children showed off their fantastic costumes. It was a real pleasant day for all.

Little blonde Laura McCulloch won the fancy dress competition as “ape woman” accompanied here in the picture by another cheeky “wee devil.”
