1910 General’s Bridge

1910-generals-bridge-wmOne of the most beautiful bridges in Blantyre, still relatively unspoiled since it was built, is the General’s Bridge over the River Calder at Crossbasket. Stoneymeadow Road (the old Toll Road) runs over the top.

This high resolution postcard from 1910 shows the bridge in all its glory with its magnificent gothic arch, a scene, which still looks familiar today.
