Sydes Brae Rail Crossing

It may take a person of a certain age to remember that Blantyre had a level crossing, with a railway crossing the road at High Blantyre. Located at Sydes Brae, further down from the road bridge, a branch of the main railway led into Dixons Pits and formed a level crossing at approximately where the junction is today at the bottom of Sydes Brae and the EK slipway.

This 1936 map has been marked up to show the level crossing and attached also is a nice sketch by A. Lindsay of how it used to look like.
