This little newspaper clipping tells of the English National Quoiting team coming to Parkhead, Glasgow to play against the Scottish National Team. It was truly the “auld enemy match” of its day. The Scottish team, were victorious securing a fine win over England by 168-111, with the Scots players scoring very consistently, similar to each others points. Indeed co-incidentally, the exact same points for each player!
Now, the reason I’m posting this, is amongst the Scots players who won that day, was a Mr. J Henderson of High Blantyre. A Blantyre man, skilled enough to play for all of Scotland! By 1933, quoiting had ended at Auchentibber, so it is quite possible Mr Henderson played at the ground at Broompark Road, which by then had a ground properly established at it the year before.
