  • Stephen Speirs Thought it was at the station road/Main Street junction? Where barbers and chip shop is now? Could be wrong of course
  • Thomas Barrett Yea the top of john st before they moved to the corner of station red.
  • John Krawczyk Yip John street and then moved to corner of Station rd next to Jimmy Cleary barbers etc

  • Marian Maguire Yes unfortunately worked for Stepek, worst experience ever. To this day I wouldn’t buy a Hoover bag from them ( if they were still operating) but yes remember Blantyre looking like this your great grandparents lived in Clark Street on the same side as Stepek.

  • Margaret Duncan We lived in John Street and always got our Rolls in Blacks. When I was 14 I worked in McDonald’s Grocer much further along the road – we got our weekly shop there – the boy had a bike with a big basket at the front.

  • Isobel Powell yes i remember it well,i was born and brought up in Blantyre i lived in Llivingstone Crescent ,when i got married we bought our 1st house in Craig Street and bought items from Stepek they were the day……..

  • Archie Peat Stepeks, corner of John Street and Glasgow Road. !! Part of the tectonic shift in Blantyre culture,! First Angies Cafe next to Jock Richardsons Butchers, first cafe in Blantyre to have a jukebox. Second The Broadway to have Rock and Roll concerts on a Sunday night and third Stepeks to sell records etc. Those were the days ( Late 1950s )

  • Arlene McWilliam Green Pay the telly at Stepek, pay the papers at Pate’s, get the butcher meat from Peter Craigs and the rolls from Littles and that was my Thursday mornings out with my mum before I started school
