1925 Baxters Bus, Glasgow Road

Friday 31st January 1936 was a sad day for Blantyre. A four-year-old girl was killed that evening in a road accident on the Glasgow Road, Blantyre. She was little Reta Black, who resided with her grandparents Mr and Mrs John Black at 7 Forrest Street, Blantyre. The girl ran into the street near her home and was instantly killed by a motor bus belonging to the S.M.T. Company.

The accident had happened near the East End, not far from the Post Office. The bus travelling towards Hamilton. It had stopped only 50 yards earlier to let passengers off and at the time of the accident was going at a comparatively slow pace. The Blantyre bus a decade earlier is pictured.
