I was recently asked, “Have you noticed how the Cocks Burn got interrupted by the railway? (see attached map). I take it, it flows under the embankment in some sort of culvert,”

The Cocksburn flows down from Mid Letterick, North of Crossbasket, into the Calder woodlands and is shown on this map with the railway cutting over the top of it. (The Greenhall or Letterick Viaduct)

A brick culvert was built in the early 1880s, at the time of the construction of the High Blantyre to East Kilbride railway link. The culvert is pictured here and is tall enough and shallow enough in Summer for a person to walk through. Thanks to Jim Brown for the picture.
