1950 Blantyre YMCA Football Team. Shared by Catherine Macury
Catherine MacRury (nee Buchanan) contacted me recently sharing this photo. She told me, “I’m getting in touch on behalf of my mum. My father was a Blantyre man, and my mother has recently been given copies of your news sheet, which we found very informative, and the first we knew of such a project. My mother has more photos which she could look out for you.
The group picture is of Blantyre YMCA Football team, circa 1950. My father Thomas Buchanan, is on the front row, far right. The back row, on the left is Billy McCulloch, also from Blantyre. My father was born in 1930 and lived with his family at 40 Small Crescent Blantyre, which was the family home up until 1911 when his sister Peggy died. My father sadly died suddenly aged 35 years, fifty years ago this month. It would therefore be lovely to have one of his photos included in your newsletter or website.”
