Another previously unseen photo has been shared here by Alex Bowie. This time around 1908 photographed at the back of the Auchentibber Inn, Sydes Brae.

Developed from the glass plate negative, this clear photo captures the back of the Auchentibber Inn (which is pictured on the far left). JB Struthers was innkeeper at the time. The Italian terraced gardens were accessed by a wooden staircase at this location, leading up to a stone terrace, which acted as a viewpoint down on to the green itself. A wooden arch is decorated by bark to make it more natural. This arch led to the small clubhouse which also accomodated an outside toilet.

Looking at the smoke coming from the chimney pot, it would appear that the outside toilet was heated, which would have been welcome when the weather got colder.

The photograph was taken by David Ritchie, a joiner who lived in Main Street and a direct relation of Alex Bowie and a distant relation of my own.
