I recently posted an article about Craighead Greyhound Racing track, formerly located in Springwells.
Blantyre man Alex Rochead read the article and shared these two photos from 1965. Alex told me they were attached to an article about the renovation of the greyhound track on 19th March 1965 which had the headline, “Dog racing fans can expect to see a new look Blantyre track in the near future. Work is going on at present building a completely new course around the old one. Just one of the many improvements planed by this go-ahead Lanarkshire track.”
The first shows Excavators reprofiling the track, with the old track in the foreground, lit by electric lamp standards.
The second photo shows an excavator and crawler leveling the ground, extending the course.
As such, I can now accurately add some further confirmed detail to the original article. Thanks Alex.
