John Matthews and the 1892 Glasgow Road incident

On 21st September 1893, John Matthews, a cart driver, struck Charles Cook, a child who ran into the road from behind a van. Witnesses noted the cart was moving normally, and the court later found Matthews and his employer not liable for the incident in March 1893. Charles Cook’s injuries were reported to authorities.
