John Queen recently shared this photo adding, “I think its my mum and grandfather going into High Blantyre Church. I can see the Petrol station and the old tenement to the side but I don’t remember any buildings behind the garage apart from the school and some lock ups and some small factory units.”
This is pictured in 1962. John added, “The pic is Ronald MacDonald and my mum Williamina MacDonald (Dewer Munro) on her wedding day Marrying Felix Queen”
It’s definitely High Blantyre. Directly across the road is the garage, behind that and between the school is the Drinks Factory (they made Jubilees!) and you can make out the houses at Park Crescent in the background. The little sloping roof is the start of the school.
