In late February 1892, spirit shop owner Mr McCaffrie at Springwells, was looking for a lost pet. He placed a rather direct advert in the Hamilton Herald saying:
“Stolen or strayed from Springwell Place, Blantyre on Saturday February 20, a fawn coloured St Bernard dog. Anyone returning it to Mr MCaffrie, spirit merchant, Blantyre will be rewarded. If found in anyones possession thereafter, they will be prosecuted.”
Today, social media plays a huge part in being able to search and track down lost pets, but it sounds like this was all a worry for Mr McCaffrie and I dont know if he was reunited with his dog.
