On Saturday 11th June 1892, the members of Blantyre Parish Church Choir held their annual picnic to Millport. The party, numbering forty, left Blantyre with the 7.28am train to Glasgow, where a special saloon awaited them for Wemyss Bay.
They then proceeded by steamer “Caledonia” to Millport. On arriving, an adjournment was at once made to Crawford’s Restaurant, where a substantial breakfast was partaken of. The Artillery Hall was also engaged, and here an hour or so was spent in a very enjoyable manner with dancing, games, etc. Next on the programme was a drive round the island in two brakes, which was well worth the time spent. After returning to Millport another short time was spent in the Hall in singing, &c. Dinner was then partaken of at Crawford’s, after which a few had an hour or so boating.
The weather on the whole was good, although a cold wind blew from the east. The whole party left Glasgow on the 9.41pm train back in Blantyre by half past ten, each one pleased with their adventures.
