Early on Sunday 18th September 1892, an unexpected gale arrived in Lanarkshire and caused some damage in Blantyre.
The Rutherglen Informer newspaper reported that “The high winds which prevailed resulted in a large temporary theatre here being partly blown down. The erection was only completed on Saturday afternoon and the first performance ‘Jeanie Deans’ had been given to audience numbering several hundred people on Saturday evening. On Sunday morning early, the wind caught the canvas roof and several parts of the scenery, which had apparently been fixed to the roof were carried skywards. No one was injured.”
