James Ramsay Stopped, 1892

On 6th September 1892, James Ramsay, a local man who lived at High Blantyre Road was working outdoors. As a hard working grocery assistant, he was delivering an order by bicycle and this particular order happened to be in Blantyre.

Whilst cycling on the road connecting High Blantyre to Glasgow Road, (on the rough track which would become Stonefield Road), he was stopped by police. The constables had observed James riding his bike on the grano footpaths at the bottom of Stonefield Road, rather than on the road surface itself.

In court, the following days, James was sentenced…….to 3 days imprisonment!
